http://crossfire.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/24/should-seaworld-free-the-killer-whales/
In this article it's discussing how whether SeaWorld should release killer whales or not. In my opinion, setting free the whales now would be worse. If they were realized they would die sooner than they would in captivity. In the wild they have a certain amount of physical needs and after being in captivity so long they wouldn't even be able to survive without help!

current event #10 - NOAA says no to importing captured beluga whales into US.
http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2013/08/07/NOAA-says-no-to-importing-captured-beluga-whales-into-US/UPI-26851375906566/
This article made me think about the Blackfish movie and how whales and sea creatures along with other creatures in general are being held captive away from their natural habitat. I know that some animals are endangered or have no home to even call home again, but is captivity really the answer? How do we as human beings even know what the best solution is to keeping animals captive? They have no voice so just assuming we're just the experts on their lifestyle is completely unfair. Then when
we get mauled, or attacked or die because they snap, what can we say to that? We are such an advanced race we should be able to figure out what we can do to better our planet in general.
"The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Fisheries Service has refused to grant an import permit for the whales, captured in the Sea of Okhotsk off the eastern coast of Russia, saying doing so would worsen the decline of the wild population from which they were taken."

current event #9 - october 17, 2013 - "U.S. Bottled Water Sales are Booming (again) Despite Opposition"
http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/05/17/u-s-bottled-water-sales-are-booming-again-despite-opposition/
This article is from National Geographic talking about the water bottle crisis around the world. After watching the video in class about how water bottles are really a bad impact on the world and this article really back that claim up.
"“Americans are drinking more bottled water because they find it convenient, appealing and also healthy,”"

current event #8 - october 10, 2013 - "Seven people mauled by bears in recent days".
http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2013/08/19/7-people-mauled-by-bears-in-recent-days/
In this article it talks about how animals like these bears rarely attack humans unless they feel threatened. But when a young girl decides to go for a jog the bear decides to attack. The girl wasn't trying to hurt the bear, just simply run away from it and it took her completely down.
""It clawed me and it was growling," she said. "It was scary.""

current event #7 - "Using killer whales as slaves" - october 3rd, 2013.
http://www.nuvo.net/indianapolis/using-killer-whales-as-slaves/Content?oid=1326757#.UmnF9ZTwL5k
This article was written in March of 2010 after the death of Dawn Brancheau. In class we recently talked about and watched the documentary "Blackfish". The whole documentary was about how non-humane SeaWorld was and how they kept the whales and stood up for their mistakes when injuring their trainers. These animals do snap and because of this, there's really no way for these animals to be "trained".
After being taken away form their families, forced into captivity, and training at weird times of the day can make any living thing break.
"While any loss of human life is regrettable, and there probably are ways to ensure an accident like this doesn't happen again, to blame Kilikum for this is ridiculous at best and short-sighted at worst."
